Before its registration as a charity in January
1992, ICDP operated as a small team of experts linked to the universities
of Oslo and Bergen.
CHRONOLOGY:
1980
The preparatory work on developing ICDP started, led by
Karsten Hundeide and Henning Rye, both professors at Oslo University
1985
Upon invitation the initial programme was presented to
UNICEF in New York
1986
Contribution came from Pnina Klein and her programme, based
on Ruven Feuerstein's theory of MLE (the mediated learning experience).
Other influences which had impact on the development
of the ICDP programme include:
- The therapeutic work of the Orion Group, developed
in Holland;
- The current research in early communication, such
as the work of Colwyn Trevarthen and Daniel Stern, as well as many
others.
- The ideas of Lev Vygotsky and of his followers,
such as Jerome Bruner, David Woods, Barbara Rogoff to name but a
few;
- Current literature
and research on child development and early intervention.
