Monitoring
and Evaluating of ICDP Projects
INTERNAL EVALUATION
Before ICDP
is implemented in a new community mapping of the local situation
is usually done through interviews and with questionnaires administered
to the key informants.
During implementation
there is an ongoing system for monitoring and evaluating the training
process and implementation of the ICDP programme. Trainees apply
self monitoring check lists and keep diaries, and these are also
used in group meetings of trainees with a supervisor as basis for
analysis of the work in progress. Each workshop and each phase of
field training is evaluated by those taking part in the training
project through reporting and sharing at regular meetings, as well
as by filling written questionnaires.
EXTERNAL
EVALUATION
External evaluation
of ICDP projects sometimes takes place and this is done by professionals
and students from outside ICDP, usually from the local universities.
The process of assimilation of the ICDP methodology by its participant
caregivers has in some projects been evaluated through case studies.
Evaluation aimed at seeing how the program is received by those
who were trained was carried out in some projects through focus
group interviews and questionnaires, adapted according to project's
context.
There is already
a number of different studies carried out in different countries.
In the future
ICDP aims to set up studies to examine the impact of the work 2
- 5 years after the ICDP intervention.
DONOR
EVALUATION
Donor organisations
often participate in the evaluation process. In some of the ICDP
projects donor representatives were actively involved as part of
the project monitoring committee.
