World Prematurity Day in Medellin
ICDP joins the World Prematurity Day celebrated on the 17 November 2017.
It is a global movement to raise awareness of premature birth and the sometimes devastating impact it can have on families.
Around the world, 15 million babies are born prematurely every year and one million of these will not survive. Sadly, prematurity is the leading cause of death in children under five. World Prematurity Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of premature birth and work with partners around the world to prevent it.
Three members of the ICDP team of trainers in Medellin, Colombia, (on photo above: Carolina Montoya, Lucy Mejia, Angelica Diaz), participated in the celebration of the World Prematurity Day by joining several other organizations that formed a network called "Redsanar". As part of the celebrations they attended in a seminar on the topic of premature birth held on the 18th November and on the 19th November they joined the awareness raising walk across the town of Medellin. Special posters and leaflets about ICDP were prepared for this occasion.
